Running Laps Around the CompetitionThe Garfield Heights City School District needed to construct a new Transportation Center and decided that it should be located next to the property of an existing highschool. This site, however, presented some challenges. The site topography contained a dramatic slope from the adjacent high school down to the residential subdivision below. To accommodate the construction of the new facility, the site required a series of SRWs (segmental retaining walls) to be installed, creating some level terraced areas to accommodate parking and traffic flow. The wall also needed to be constructed quickly to avoid possible collapse of the excavation before completion of the wall. Budget was also a key consideration.
