Licensing Questions

Q.  What is your company's experience in the business?

A.  The licensing of RisiStone products grew out of a family-owned business, Risi Stone Ltd., founded in 1974,  and operating in Gormley, Ontario. We manufactured a range of wet and dry-cast concrete products, ultimately focusing and specializing in retaining wall systems. We began licensing others to produce certain of our products in 1983. The granting and administration of the RisiStone licenses is currently done through our licensing company, Rothbury International, Inc.

Q.  Do I need previous experience in the concrete business?

A.  Many of our licensees already operated a complementary business when they acquired a Risi Stone license, while others commenced a new business from start up. In either case, a complete training program is provided for the manufacture of our products. However, licensees should have experience in business administration and marketing.

Q.  What kind of business would benefit most from the addition of a Risi Stone license?

A.  Many businesses have a customer base particularly suited to the addition of RisiStone products, including manufacturers of pre-cast concrete products, general construction firms and landscaping contractors.

Q.  Under what name will I conduct business?

A.  Each RisiStone product is identified by an individual trademark and the license includes the right to use this trademark in association with the sale of the product.  Your business can continue under its existing name or, in the case of a start-up situation, a new name can be chosen for the business,  possibly incorporating references to the RisiStone products.

Q.  Where do I get the equipment?

A.  We can suggest the sourcing of necessary machinery from established manufacturers who would meet our standards and specifications.

Q.  How much does a license cost?

A.  An initial license fee is to be paid for each major product line  licensed (ie. PisaStone, Pisa2, DuraHold, SienaStone,  StackStone,  etc.).   A royalty fee, calculated as a percentage of the licensee's gross revenue is payable monthly.

Q.  What is the typical investment required and how much money will I make?

A.  The investment will depend upon the number and type of RisiStone products you want to produce and whether you already have plant facilities and equipment. Investment schedules are available for our  product lines, in both  add-on and start-up scenarios. These figures, however, are estimates only and your success will largely be the result of your own efforts and other factors particular to your business.
